Just the two of us

I write this with an aching back (the result of a frenzy of cleaning today), with presents still to be wrapped, the Christmas menu not yet finalised 100%, and with sweat on my brow.  Yes, after going AWOL last year, it seems summer might just have arrived.

I will be hosting members of my husband's family tomorrow.  I'm happy about that, as I get to do it on my terms.  Although one thing I realised.  When you're used to cooking for just two, figuring how much asparagus you need for 10 can be a bit tricky!

Wishing all of you the very best for this season.  Hoping that you each find your own way to celebrate, commemorate, and to just "be."  And hoping you know how important you are in my heart, and how grateful I am that you share your lives with me here.

  2. We are thinking the same thing here...it is much more difficult to figure out potatoes for 10 than 2! Happy Holidays!

I haven't been posting much because I have been too busy. I'm still reading though. Hopefully now that the holidays will pass...time will find me again.

  4. I learned how to cook from my mom - who was cooking for 6 (or more, if there was a recipe specifically for large family functions). Now, my husband is always complaining because I make waaaay too much food for the 3 of us. Oh well...

  9. Just catching up on my blog reading and wanted to wish you a Happy 2013! It's been a pleasure 'meeting' you here and sharing experiences for our greater good. You've hit the nail on the head with something - I remember saying (quite often!) to the folks at Christmas that we simply "don't do catering"... I'm used to feeding two now and that's just the way it is :)

    Happy holidays!

  11. Thanks all for the good wishes.

I'm able to report that I over-estimated on the asparagus (carrots, beans) by about 30%, but under-estimated on the whipped cream requirements. Smoked salmon was spot on. ;-)

And we had the hottest Christmas Day since 1934! Hope your days were just as enjoyable as ours was.
