I'd like to know myself what to do if I hear someone say those words to me and I'll definitely get back to you on this if that kind of situation appears.

Anonymous, I love what you're saying about not adding "as a big sister" to your sentences. When we were growing up, if something bad happened in the news to some child the same age as my baby bro, I did feel an extra twinge of horror. But I'd never begin a sentence with "as a big sister" or imply that younger siblings and only children were devoid of empathy! It is for no other reason than to hurt someone or make yourself feel better for you to say "Well you'd understand if you had kids of your own" It's one of my biggest pet peeves. Like I still understand how kids work. They aren't a foreign concept because I haven't birthed one.hollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02110735002081254539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5725106142359702200.post-77262327617236881302014-06-11T22:44:21.851+12:002014-06-11T22:44:21.851+12:00You know, I guess reading your blog I always assum...You know, I guess reading your blog I always assume you *are* a parent. Just no living children. Like I always have considered myself a parent, already from my student-babysitting days. For me life is "easier" now that there is a living child and other people see what I mean.
And um, maybe the people who use the precursor "as a parent" aren't generally people who were very empathic to begin with?
(Also, that stupid discussion about how you only know "love" after kids blah blah? Same people?)
Anyway, it feels good to know you are an internet auntie to Suzy, and I'll try and be as fearless and compassionate as I can.
Valeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10210187335704409247noreply@blogger.com
