Pleasure (and pain) in the little things

Sometimes, when we least expect it, we realise that maybe we’re missing out on something small that gives us pleasure. I was struck by this recently in a stationery store. It was the start of the school year, and there were notepads and exercise books galore - heavily discounted, and tempting me with their empty pages. I bought one exercise book. Yes, a paltry, measly ONE. I delighted in the cost … 49 cents! I felt a tiny twinge that as I didn’t have any children, I had no excuse to buy dozens. Then I moved on.

You can read more about my stationery fetish here on ASeparate Life.

  5. Wow, 49 cents! Is an exercise book like a composition notebook? I love those. I kinda feel like stationary doesn't require you to have kids to appreciate, even if it's most often used by kids. :) Glad you bought it!

  7. We only had about of a winter this year, and so our spring is starting nice and early - a rarity in Central Oregon. I was cleaning up my flower beds last weekend and was reminded how wonderful gardening is for me. I've been going through a "what if" phase on kids lately, so it was nice to find this thing I enjoy that can calm my mind.

I too always find back to school a little sad, knowing i'll never do that.
