Calling all Blogger experts!
I find the Search feature on Blogger to be really inconsistent, especially compared to that of Wordpress, where I write A Separate Life and other blogs. For example, all posts in my Gifts of Infertility Series have been given the label Gifts of Infertility, but if I search for that series or label, I don’t get all the results I should. In fact, eight of the 23 posts in that series are missing in the search results – ranging between #1 and #18, so it’s not an issue of the order in which they were posted.

I can find everything easily behind the scenes in my lists of posts by searching for particular labels or words, so why doesn't it work on the front end of my blog?
Any suggestions for a solution, so that others can find my posts easily?
I don't know, but I'm interested in any tips you can pass along. :p Some of my earliest posts aren't very well tagged either (I didn't know what I was doing in those days...!) -- and sometimes I think I should go through them all & add some new tags -- but reviewing almost 8 years of posts (!!) is sort of a daunting prospect. :p
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been considering doing this too - I have so many labels it is getting unwieldy, but even when my labelling is perfect (as in my Gifts of Infertility series), Blogger search is terrible!
DeleteOh man... I didn't even KNOW There was a search function. I have used Blogger for four years now, and I shamefully really don't know much about the navigation or logistics within. I don't know how to tag a post with a category or anything. I look forward to your tips though... I hope someone more tech-savvy can help!
ReplyDeleteI don't know either. I know that last week I attempted to find one of your posts and eventually resorted to a regular google search to find what I was looking for. This reminds me that I need to start tagging my posts though....
ReplyDeleteIt was your comment that you had to Google, which prompted me to finally write this post! I've been frustrated with it for a long time. It's one of the reasons I changed my Blog Archive set up (in the sidebar) - you can now see the names at least of all my posts.
DeleteIf you add the Labels section on the left side, that should allow you to click on the label that you put on it and bring them up. I've done that for the ones that I wanted to find that have music. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie. That will mean I have to seriously cull my labels list, so don't hold your breath!
DeleteSorry, right side!
ReplyDeleteLearning from you at the moment. Wish I had an answer.
ReplyDeleteAnd you "Why?" Post is amazing!
Hmm...I rarely use the search feature when browsing other people's blogs, so I have no idea of this type of problem. Hope you can get it sorted out!
